What is a primary election and why should I care?

What is a Primary Election?
Primary elections are how political parties choose who will represent them in upcoming general election.
Why Should I Care?
Primaries give us more options as voters. Instead of Democrat or Republican we can pick between candidates who are all Republican and more closely align with what we want in Congress. With such low voter turnout in the Primaries it doesn't take many of us to make our voices heard and push our representatives in Congress to vote the way we want.
What Happens If My Candidate Loses The Primary?
Even if the candidate you back loses your voice will still be heard and you can still vote in the primary. If your congressman goes from getting 80% of the primary to 60% they are going to adjust the way they vote out of fear of losing the next primary.
How Can I Help?
Voting in your primary is the most obvious way to help but either donating or volunteering for your Senator/Representative's primary opponent help even more. Talk to your friends, family, and neighbors about the upcoming primary election. Share this website, post a lawn sign, send a text, anything to get the information out there for other people.
Who's on the ballot?
Your county likely has a sample ballot you can find online. If you can't find it on their page you can use Ballotpedia's sample ballot lookup tool. Remember, you can take a filled out sample ballot to the polls
